1.1 Conference on Social Change
16th October 2007 from 9.30am - 1pm at the Geoffrey Manton Building,
Manchester Metropolitan University, Oxford Road.
CN4M, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Manchester City Council are
hosting a conference looking at Social change: the role of Social Capital
and Community Cohesion. Are these just empty concepts or can they be used in
a meaningful way in Manchester?
A wide range of speakers will be taking to the stage to spark debate,
including grass roots community groups. Key note speakers are Robert
Putnam, who was once described as one of the most influential thinkers today
and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Manchester, and
Ed Cox, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the Local Government
Information Unit and Commissioner on the Commission for Cohesion and
Intergration.

1.2 Women's Network Link Organisation Tender

2.0 Training
2.1 Free training session for staff /volunteers on 'Offender Learning'
Do you work in adult education or support work? Want to find out more about
the issues facing service users who are offenders? This professional
development training session is run by local charity NEARIS which
specialises in education for offenders and other disadvantaged adults.
The course will cover: introduction to the criminal justice system; managing
risk; models of change and motivation; and an overview of services available
in Greater Manchester.
The half day session is repeated on 4 dates across Sept-Nov: 25 Sept
(9.30-12.30), 3 Oct (1.30-4.30), 25 Oct (1.30-4.30), 27 Nov (9.30-12.30).

2.2 Training for Trainers - Community Education for Social Change
A free accredited course taking place from 5th October to 30th November 2007
on Fridays from 1pm to 3.30pm at Manchester Metropolitan University -
Didsbury
Credits: 10 credit MMU (level5) module, Participants will obtain
certificates of participation
This is an introductory course in adult education and community training
design aimed at practitioners involved in community work with adults across
all sectors. It draws on the workers practice and expects participants to
carry out a group project demonstrating their learning.

2.3 Drugs & Alcohol Awareness Workshops
November 2007 to March 2008
Manchester's Drug & Alcohol Strategy Team and Lifeline Project Ltd. are
offering basic drug and alcohol awareness workshops between November 2007
and March 2008. The workshops are targeted at smaller voluntary and
community organisations that have contact with the public.
Participants will be able to take away a useful range of handouts and other
resources. If your group would like to find out more about a particular
aspect, not covered here, the workshops can be tailored to your needs.
Workshops will be constructed always around the needs of the participants
and the work they do.

2.4 British Sign Language and Deaf Awareness Short Courses - October 2007 in
Manchester 15th October
Who should attend?

overcome barriers in the work place.

Manchester is developing a Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan looking

3.5 Are you interested in Manchester's Open Spaces?
Open Spaces Assessment consultation workshop on Thursday 11th October, 6pm -
8pm at the Town Hall
The Open Spaces Assessment is being carried out to identify the needs around
open spaces in Manchester and use this to create standards around quality
and quantity of open space.
Existing open spaces are then compared to this standard so that the council
can work out what needs to be done to bring them all up to standard (which
could include creating more space, if a need is identified).
This information will then form the basis of a 15 year investment programme,
and policies that go in the Core Strategy of the Local Development Framework
(LDF), a planning document being consulted on this Autumn.
The workshop will ask people for their views on the quantity and quality of
Open Spaces in Manchester, accessibility, strengths and weaknesses and good
and bad practice.

4.1 Have your say on the future of East Manchester
New East Manchester has worked hard over the past seven years to regenerate
East Manchester and have made progress in tackling crime; improving how
clean the streets are; making sure services meet your needs; raising the
standards of education; and getting people into work.
But, there is still a lot more to do. Over the next ten years they want to
develop plans that will continue to improve the areas of Beswick, Openshaw,
Clayton, Gorton, Newton Heath, Miles Platting and Ancoats.

4.2 Recruitment and Information Day
The Manchester Neighbourhood Care Groups Association is organising a
recruitment and information day to take place at the Britannia Hotel on
Palatine Road in Northenden on Wednesday 31st October.
This event aims to promote caring for older people in the Manchester area
and recruit volunteers in order to enable the Care Groups to help more older
people in the community.
They are holding a small exhibition with approximately ten stands for
organisations who wish to attend. They are asking those organisations who
are able to make a small donation of £50 towards the running costs of the
event.

4.3 Coming Off, Staying Off
The Drug & Alcohol Strategy Team has just published 'Coming off, Staying
off.' This is a comprehensive directory of drugs services for adults in the
city of Manchester.

4.4 Capacity Building Surgeries
These are aimed at voluntary and community groups working with children and
young people. There is a range of support available including advice on
fundraising, action planning training and organisational development. The
consultant is also happy to discuss any other issues where s/he may be able
to help. And it's all free!
South Manchester Regeneration Team are pleased to offer capacity building
support surgeries if your organisation is based in one of the following

5.2 Members Needed for the National Community Forum
The National Community Forum (NCF) brings community voices into national
government. Board members tell Ministers and civil servants what it's really
like to live and/or work in deprived areas and work together to find
solutions to the very real issues in the community. They provide feedback on
initiatives and policies to help ensure they work for everyone and, with
their unique perspectives, fresh ideas and passion for the community, they
help narrow the gap between deprived areas and the rest of the country.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with those in power to make a
positive impact on quality of life for years to come.
NCF board members will be required to contribute twelve days of their time
per year, being paid £163 per day plus expenses. The 'Chair' will need to be
able to lead the group of 24, keeping them focused and on track. The Chair
will work twenty days a year, being paid £213 per day plus expenses.

This is initially an 8 month appointment (continuation funding will be

The post holder will be responsible for initiating a South Asian Men's
activity-therapeutic group for elderly people (over 50's) from the BME
community to improve their capacity to identify their own health needs,
address them appropriately and improve well-being. The work is preventative
and will address issues relating to social exclusion, awareness of mental
health problems and access to statutory and community based health services.
The post was initially funded for one year through the POPP Programme
(Manchester's Partnership for Older People Projects). There is a research
element to the post that is linked to a National Evaluation of the quality
of life for Older Citizens.
Development and / or Group Work experience is essential. Community languages
Urdu and Punjabi are required.

2.1 Community Health Tutor Training (ChaTT)
CHaTT is a practical course to help you plan and run health groups or hold
health events - where you live, with the staff or parents of your school,
with the people you work with or mix with.
It is aimed at people who are interested in promoting health in their own
communities.

This course is FREE to all applicants who live or work in Manchester
What will I learn?
The Core Module 3¼ hour sessions for 10 weeks
Content: - Factors influencing our health
- What is health promotion?
- How adults learn
- Group work skills
- Promoting healthy lifestyles
All applicants MUST complete the Core Module before taking the Optional
Modules
Applicants can choose one or more Optional Modules. These run throughout the
year.
* Stress Management and Relaxation (2 days) learn to identify the things
that stress people out and to teach relaxation
* Healthy Eating (2½ hours for 6 weeks) learn how to work practically with
groups, including running "cook and taste" groups, weight management groups
and on healthy eating.
* Working with People with Learning Disabilities learn how to adapt ChaTT
approaches and methods to work with people with learning disabilities
* Lifting the Lid on Cancer (1/2 day) learn how to raise the issues of
cancer prevention and screening with your groups

4.1 Show support for Irwell City Park
Salford, Manchester and Trafford have submitted a bid to the BIG Lottery
Fund to create Irwell City Park - a new and exciting urban park that will
transform 8km of riverside into an accessible, attractive and vibrant
waterfront for everyone to enjoy.
Irwell City Park will stretch from Salford Quays, through Manchester city
centre, to The Meadows in Salford. The new park will provide a safe,
continuous green route for pedestrians and cyclists. There will be exciting
new public spaces, better access to the riverside, improved lighting and
signage, five stunning new bridges and lots of new events and activities.
The bid is one of 23 UK projects competing for funding from the BIG Lottery
Fund's Living Landmarks programme. In November 2007 the BIG Lottery will
announce which projects will receive £25m.

2.1 Community Health Tutor Training (ChaTT)
CHaTT is a practical course to help you plan and run health groups or hold
health events - where you live, with the staff or parents of your school,
with the people you work with or mix with.
It is aimed at people who are interested in promoting health in their own
communities.
Is this you?
* interested in health
* committed to being active in promoting health within your community
* can identify groups in the community that you would like to be active with
* confident in speaking and reading English
This course is FREE to all applicants who live or work in Manchester
What will I learn?
The Core Module 3¼ hour sessions for 10 weeks
Content: - Factors influencing our health
- What is health promotion?
- How adults learn
- Group work skills
- Promoting healthy lifestyles
All applicants MUST complete the Core Module before taking the Optional
Modules
Applicants can choose one or more Optional Modules. These run throughout the
year.
* Stress Management and Relaxation (2 days) learn to identify the things
that stress people out and to teach relaxation
* Healthy Eating (2½ hours for 6 weeks) learn how to work practically with
groups, including running "cook and taste" groups, weight management groups
and on healthy eating.
* Working with People with Learning Disabilities learn how to adapt ChaTT
approaches and methods to work with people with learning disabilities
* Lifting the Lid on Cancer (1/2 day) learn how to raise the issues of
cancer prevention and screening with your groups

16th October 2007, 9.30am - 1pm at the Geoffrey Manton Building, Manchester
Metropolitan University, Oxford Road.
CN4M, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Manchester City Council are
hosting a conference looking at Social change: the role of Social Capital
and Community Cohesion. Are these just empty concepts or can they be used in
a meaningful way in Manchester?
A wide range of speakers will be taking to stage to spark debate, including
grass roots community groups. Key note speakers are Robert Putnam, who was
once described as one of the most influential thinkers today and is
currently a visiting professor at the University of Manchester, and Ed Cox,
Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the Local Government Information
Unit and Commissioner on the Commission for Cohesion and Intergration.

3.3 Are you interested in Manchester's Open Spaces?
If so there are 2 events coming up that you should be aware of!
1. Open Spaces Assessment consultation workshop Thursday 11th October,
6-8pm, Town Hall
The Open Spaces Assessment is being carried out to identify the needs around
open spaces in Manchester and use this to create standards around quality
and quantity of open space.
Existing open spaces are then compared to this standard so that the council
can work out what needs to be done to bring them all up to standard (which
could include creating more space, if a need is identified).
This information will then form the basis of a 15 year investment programme,
and policies that go in the Core Strategy of the Local Development Framework
(LDF), a planning document being consulted on this
Autumn.
The workshop will ask people for their views on the quantity and quality of
Open Spaces in Manchester, accessibility, strengths and weaknesses and good
and bad practice.
2. Open Spaces: protection, preservation, participation Saturday 20th
October, 11am-4pm, Manchester Grammar School
A free event for community and voluntary groups looking at Manchester's Open
Spaces.
Workshops on topics around protecting open spaces, good practice in managing
open spaces (including working with the local authority) ...and more... A
chance to give your views on open spaces to feed into planning

Salford, Manchester and Trafford have submitted a bid to the BIG Lottery
Fund to create Irwell City Park - a new and exciting urban park that will
transform 8km of riverside into an accessible, attractive and vibrant
waterfront for everyone to enjoy.
Irwell City Park will stretch from Salford Quays, through Manchester city
centre, to The Meadows in Salford. The new park will provide a safe,
continuous green route for pedestrians and cyclists. There will be exciting
new public spaces, better access to the riverside, improved lighting and
signage, five stunning new bridges and lots of new events and activities.
The bid is one of 23 UK projects competing for funding from the BIG Lottery
Fund's Living Landmarks programme. In November 2007 the BIG Lottery will
announce which projects will receive £25m.

1.1 CN4M Grants PANEL MEMBERS NEEDED
CN4M are looking for panel members who maybe interested in joining a pool of
people working with Community Network 4 Manchester's new grants program CN4M
Grants.
We are particularly keen to get representation from the different
communities of interest as well as from different geographical areas within
the City of Manchester reflecting the diversity within the area.
You will have the satisfaction of helping distribute significant amounts of
European money to support worthwhile community and voluntary activity across
the City.
It will give you a fascinating insight into the diversity and range of
voluntary and community activity going on in the City, and an opportunity to
learn or develop skills in assessing projects and working as a team to make
the best decisions.
Panel meetings are held centrally, in an accessible building and
refreshments will be provided. Out of pocket expenses will be paid for
travel, childcare etc.

Training Session 1: Effective Service User Involvement
September 17th 9.30am - 3.30pm atThe Mechanics Institute
Audience: Voluntary sector staff and managers with responsibility for
service user involvement.
Aim: This session will help you develop effective service user involvement
in your organisation. A range of participatory group activities will share
learning on the benefits of service user involvement and tackle issues such
as supporting service users through training, payment and creating the
appropriate environment.

Albert Square on August 31st prior to the monthly ride.

"Climate Change: meeting the challenge locally and preparing for the
expected as well as unanticipated" which will be hosted by The House
Magazine on Thursday 25th October 2007 in Westminster.
Delegates at this full-day Westminster Briefing conference will consider the

Imperial War Museum North has partnered up with Manchester Museum to deliver
a joint innovative Volunteer programme called 'In Touch' specifically
designed to help local people gain work experience, confidence and skills.
The Manchester Museum will be hosting a 'Networking Day' on Tuesday 4th
September 2007 from 1pm until 4pm to introduce the 'In Touch' programme to a
diverse group of organisations in the local community.
This event is a unique opportunity for service providers, agencies and
support workers to find out more about the partnership between The
Manchester Museum and Imperial War Museum North and the 'In Touch' Museum
Volunteer Training Programme.

Come along and listen to informal presentations by Stepping Stones,

Irwell City Park is being led by a cross boundary collaboration involving
Manchester City Council, Salford City Council, Trafford Metropolitan Borough
Council and Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, who have united to
transform one of the North West's most unique waterways.
Planning Guidance is being prepared to support the delivery of Irwell City
Park. The Planning Guidance relates to the intention to establish Irwell
City Park as an exciting and unique waterfront location within the Regional
Centre.
The draft Planning Guidance will be subject to public consultation from
Friday 17 August 2007 until 4.30pm on Thursday 27 September 2007 and can be

This group has been set up to reach "hidden" Carers -those who ordinarily do
not class themselves as Carers.

share experiences & information with each other, Carers Centre Staff will
facilitate the group in partnership with Manchester Drugs Service Family &
Carers Development Worker who will be available to help us provide a range
of support services.

Manchester Health Watchdog is working in partnership with Manchester
Alliance for Community Care, Manchester Primary Care Trust, Manchester Adult
Social Care and PPI Forums to produce a city-wide response to the Department
of Health "A New Ambition for Stroke" consultation.
Members have already started work to gather views and experiences of Stroke
services in Manchester and on the 4 aspects as identified in the
consultation document.
The aim is to gather experiences, comments and view from as wide and as
diversely as possible - this will allow the people of Manchester to have
their say on how they believe Stroke services should be delivered locally.

1.1 CN4M Grants PANEL MEMBERS NEEDED
CN4M are looking for panel members who maybe interested in joining a pool of
people working with Community Network 4 Manchester's new grants program CN4M
Grants.
We are particularly keen to get representation from the different
communities of interest as well as from different geographical areas within
the City of Manchester reflecting the diversity within the area.
You will have the satisfaction of helping distribute significant amounts of
European money to support worthwhile community and voluntary activity across
the City.
It will give you a fascinating insight into the diversity and range of
voluntary and community activity going on in the City, and an opportunity to
learn or develop skills in assessing projects and working as a team to make
the best decisions.
Panel meetings are held centrally, in an accessible building and

2.1 Doing Community Development: values into action
Coming up on September 11th & 12th in Birmingham - 'Doing Community
Development: values into action' : a two-day training course focusing on
planning and evaluating community empowerment and community wellbeing.
The course offers a strategic way for organisations, departments and
individuals:
to take a community development approach to their work and evaluate the
outcomes
to plan their community development activity and keep track of what happens
as a result
to see how taking a community development approach can help meet targets and
outcomes around community engagement and community empowerment
Course fee: £340 + VAT (fee includes accommodation for one night and meals)

2.2 BA (Hons) Applied Community and Youth Work Studies
Applications are now being accepted for a special course for suitably
experienced practitioners who have previous relevant undergraduate level
qualifications. Applications for the final year of the BA (Hons) Applied
Community and Youth Work Studies are available from the undergraduate
admissions office at the University (0161 275 3292).
Starting in September 2007, they will be running a small pilot "Level Three"
course leading to this new honours degree. The course is for individuals who
already have JNC professional status (Joint Negotiating Committee for youth
and community work) and wish to "upgrade" their qualification to a degree.
The course is designed for experienced practitioners who are interested in
serious study and research into community work and youth work issues and
practice. The course can be undertaken on a part-time (18 months) or
full-time (11 months) basis with required units running on a Monday.

2.3 Dementia Awareness Training
This informative and interactive session, run by the Admiral Nurses, aims to
enable participants to have an introduction to dementia; to learn more about
the different types of dementia, its impact upon the person and those caring
for them, and how we can improve the quality of life for people with
dementia and their carers
The training is for anyone working with people with dementia, including
support workers, administrative staff, ancillary staff and qualified staff
new to the field or who would like a refresher.
Sessions are to be run on a Friday, from 9.30a.m. to 12.30p.m., on the
following dates: 21st Sept 2007, 23rd Nov 2007, 18th Jan 2008, 14th March,
2008
The course is free to employees of the Manchester Mental Health & Social
Care Trust and employees of Manchester City Council 's Children, Families
and Social Care Services. All other organisations will be charged £25 + VAT
per booking.

There are several spaces available for the Respect Workshop on Monday 10th
September, 10:30am -12pm.

Why Should I Bother?! - The findings and recommendations put forward in the

and activists who may have experienced difficulties in getting onto the
LAPS. This meeting acts as another route in and is recognised as one of the

Invitation to hear an international guest and respected Statesman Reverend
Jesse Jackson Snr speaking exclusively to an invite only audience as part of
a nationwide tour organised by Equanomics UK. The event is hosted by Black &
Minority Ethnic Christian Association and supported by Manchester City
Council and other Community Groups. It will take place at the Church of God
of Prophecy August 25th, 2007 at 6pm until 7.30pm.
A key purpose of this event is to support the commemoration of the abolition
of the slave trade and to highlight the economic contribution of Black and
Minority ethnic communities in the UK past and present.

2 yrs funding has been secured to deliver a health promotion project to
raise awareness about presenting cancer symptoms early.

4.2 Compact Voice Focus Group
Compact Voice, the representative body for the VCS on the Compact, is
looking for people to take part in a focus group in Manchester. The purpose
of the focus group is to find out about your experience of the Compact and
will be included as part of a wider report exploring the relationship
between the sector and the government as framed by the Compact.

2.2 BA (Hons) Applied Community and Youth Work Studies
Applications are now being accepted for a special course for suitably
experienced practitioners who have previous relevant undergraduate level
qualifications. Applications for the final year of the BA (Hons) Applied
Community and Youth Work Studies are available from the undergraduate

Starting in September 2007, they will be running a small pilot "Level Three"
course leading to this new honours degree. The course is for individuals who
already have JNC professional status (Joint Negotiating Committee for youth
and community work) and wish to "upgrade" their qualification to a degree.
The course is designed for experienced practitioners who are interested in
serious study and research into community work and youth work issues and
practice. The course can be undertaken on a part-time (18 months) or
full-time (11 months) basis with required units running on a Monday.

2.3 Dementia Awareness Training
This informative and interactive session, run by the Admiral Nurses, aims to
enable participants to have an introduction to dementia; to learn more about
the different types of dementia, its impact upon the person and those caring
for them, and how we can improve the quality of life for people with
dementia and their carers
The training is for anyone working with people with dementia, including
support workers, administrative staff, ancillary staff and qualified staff
new to the field or who would like a refresher.
Sessions are to be run on a Friday, from 9.30a.m. to 12.30p.m., on the
following dates: 21st Sept 2007, 23rd Nov 2007, 18th Jan 2008, 14th March,

The course is free to employees of the Manchester Mental Health & Social

1.1 CN4M Grants PANEL MEMBERS NEEDED
CN4M are looking for panel members who maybe interested in joining a pool of
people working with Community Network 4 Manchester's new grants program CN4M
Grants.
We are particularly keen to get representation from the different
communities of interest as well as from different geographical areas within
the City of Manchester reflecting the diversity within the area.
You will have the satisfaction of helping distribute significant amounts of
European money to support worthwhile community and voluntary activity across
the City.
It will give you a fascinating insight into the diversity and range of
voluntary and community activity going on in the City, and an opportunity to
learn or develop skills in assessing projects and working as a team to make
the best decisions.
Panel meetings are held centrally, in an accessible building and

3.1 Open Spaces Event - Saturday 15th September
This event is about the protection, preservation and use of open spaces in
Manchester. These could range from recognised open spaces such as parks, to
school playing fields to those informal green spaces that may suddenly
disappear, for example by being built on as there is nothing in place to
protect them.
This event will involve a mix of policy and practical activities. For
example there may be something around how community groups can engage with
the Council to protect open spaces and any planning issues in relation to
this.

3.2 Respect Working Group
Monday 10th September 10:30am - 12pm at the Friends Meeting House.
Each meeting concentrates on a different Respect theme e.g. PCSO's, funding,
signposting, Safer Neighbourhoods etc. and helps local people gain a better
understanding of how the RESPECT Agenda works across the city. The CSN
RESPECT Working Group can be used to address weaknesses in the system and
ultimately help improve crime and disorder structures. The meetings are
accessible to all VCS groups throughout the city and as such, are an
excellent platform for gathering reliable anecdotal public opinion.

Students on the Manchester University Business School MBA programme are
offering their skills free of charge to community groups in the Greater

1.1 CN4M Grants PANEL MEMBERS NEEDED
CN4M are looking for panel members who maybe interested in joining a pool of
people working with Community Network 4 Manchester's new grants program CN4M
Grants.
We are particularly keen to get representation from the different
communities of interest as well as from different geographical areas within
the City of Manchester reflecting the diversity within the area.
You will have the satisfaction of helping distribute significant amounts of
European money to support worthwhile community and voluntary activity across
the City.
It will give you a fascinating insight into the diversity and range of
voluntary and community activity going on in the City, and an opportunity to
learn or develop skills in assessing projects and working as a team to make
the best decisions.
Panel meetings are held centrally, in an accessible building and
refreshments will be provided. Out of pocket expenses will be paid for

3.1 Open Spaces Event - Saturday 15th September
This event is about the protection, preservation and use of open spaces in
Manchester. These could range from recognised open spaces such as parks, to
school playing fields to those informal green spaces that may suddenly
disappear, for example by being built on as there is nothing in place to
protect them.
This event will involve a mix of policy and practical activities. For
example there may be something around how community groups can engage with
the Council to protect open spaces and any planning issues in relation to
this.

3.2 Respect Working Group
Monday 10th September 10:30am - 12pm at the Friends Meeting House.
Each meeting concentrates on a different Respect theme e.g. PCSO's, funding,
signposting, Safer Neighbourhoods etc. and helps local people gain a better
understanding of how the RESPECT Agenda works across the city. The CSN
RESPECT Working Group can be used to address weaknesses in the system and
ultimately help improve crime and disorder structures. The meetings are
accessible to all VCS groups throughout the city and as such, are an
excellent platform for gathering reliable anecdotal public opinion.
Lunch/ refreshments provided. As usual, this is a booking only event and
numbers are limited to 30 (voluntary and community sector ONLY) on a
first-come first-served basis.

Students on the Manchester University Business School MBA programme are
offering their skills free of charge to community groups in the Greater

This free half day course is an opportunity to find out more about working
with offenders in the community in the context of education and skills. The
course is run by NEARIS, a charity which specialises in education for
offenders and other disadvantaged adults in Greater Manchester. The course

Each morning will feature a succinct introduction to permaculture, giving
you some tools and techniques that you can use immediately to benefit your

The afternoons will be themed, looking at what permaculture has to offer in

The seminars will take place in the 'Relaxation room' at 93 Church Lane,
Harpurhey, a 'well-being' centre managed by Manchester Mental Health and
Social Care Trust. We will be using the centre and its grounds as a focus
for practical design exercises during each day. Sessions will run from
10.00 - 4.00, with lunch from 12.30 to 1.30.
The full day includes a healthy, delicious lunch prepared by service users
at the centre.
The introduction to permaculture will be repeated each morning, so if you
are interested in more than one of the afternoon themes, it will not be
necessary to attend the morning each time.

*BACKGROUND* The Community Safety Network (CSN) is recognised as the
voluntary sector arm of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and has
been operational since 2002. There are currently 1,400 members of the
Community Safety Network across the city.
Since the 15th February this year, the CSN has been holding regular RESPECT
Meetings with an average attendance of 30 from the local community, and a
keynote speaker from the CDRP. The purpose of the RESPECT group is to enable
a two-way communication process between the vol/com sector and CDRP
partners; essentially:

operations

The Next Multi Agency Forum (MAF) Meeting is taking place at The Friends
Meeting House, Mount Street (behind Manchester Central Library), Tuesday

The Multi Agency Forum (MAF) is a networking, planning and
information-sharing event organised every three months by the MARIM team.
At each MAF meeting there are workshops, breakout groups or networking
events organised by people working in different areas such as health,
housing, community support or immigration.

Youth Inclusion Projects, E2E projects, complementary education projects,
schools and through an Open Award Centre.
Delivery includes a range of outdoor education including kayaking, canoeing,
mountain biking, hiking, and a wide range of youth work methods. A
successful applicant would be working with young people in an outdoor
environment and so an enthusiasm for outdoor education and experience in
youth work are essential.

1.1 CN4M Grants Tender
CN4M is currently the accountable body for a grants programme called the
CN4M Community Grants - due to limited internal capacity and the short term
nature of this project CN4M is seeking to appoint a 'delivery partner' to
implement this programme in an efficient, effective and accessible manner to
ensure maximum benefit from the available grant funding.

1.2 CN4M Grants PANEL MEMBERS NEEDED
CN4M are looking for panel members who maybe interested in joining a pool of
people working with Community Network 4 Manchester's new grants program CN4M
Grants.
We are particularly keen to get representation from the different
communities of interest as well as from different geographical areas within
the City of Manchester reflecting the diversity within the area.
You will have the satisfaction of helping distribute significant amounts of
European money to support worthwhile community and voluntary activity across
the City.
It will give you a fascinating insight into the diversity and range of
voluntary and community activity going on in the City, and an opportunity to
learn or develop skills in assessing projects and working as a team to make
the best decisions.
Panel meetings are held centrally, in an accessible building and
refreshments will be provided. Out of pocket expenses will be paid for

This free half day course is an opportunity to find out more about working
with offenders in the community in the context of education and skills. The
course is run by NEARIS, a charity which specialises in education for
offenders and other disadvantaged adults in Greater Manchester. The course
will cover: background on the criminal justice system; managing risk; models
of change and motivation.

2.3 Creating Local Solutions
A series of one-day seminars for individuals and organisations introducing
permaculture to improve our well-being and secure our future:
• Climate Change, Peak Oil and Permaculture - Tues Sep 4th
• Food, Neighbourhoods and Permaculture - Tues Sep 11th
• Healthy Communities, Organisations and Permaculture - Tues Sep 18th
Permaculture is based on observing and learning from nature, and using this
knowledge in whatever we do. This might be creating homes, communities,
allotments, reports, woodlands, businesses or anything at all. Permaculture
is essentially about creating beneficial relationships, and its application
is only limited by our imagination.
Each morning will feature a succinct introduction to permaculture, giving
you some tools and techniques that you can use immediately to benefit your
life and work.
The afternoons will be themed, looking at what permaculture has to offer in
relation to broader issues.
The seminars will take place in the 'Relaxation room' at 93 Church Lane,
Harpurhey, a 'well-being' centre managed by Manchester Mental Health and
Social Care Trust. We will be using the centre and its grounds as a focus
for practical design exercises during each day. Sessions will run from
10.00 - 4.00, with lunch from 12.30 to 1.30.
The full day includes a healthy, delicious lunch prepared by service users
at the centre.
The introduction to permaculture will be repeated each morning, so if you
are interested in more than one of the afternoon themes, it will not be
necessary to attend the morning each time.

3.2 Respect Working Group
Monday 10th September 10:30am - 12pm at the Friends Meeting House.
*BACKGROUND* The Community Safety Network (CSN) is recognised as the
voluntary sector arm of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and has
been operational since 2002. There are currently 1,400 members of the
Community Safety Network across the city.
Since the 15th February this year, the CSN has been holding regular RESPECT
Meetings with an average attendance of 30 from the local community, and a
keynote speaker from the CDRP. The purpose of the RESPECT group is to enable
a two-way communication process between the vol/com sector and CDRP
partners; essentially:
. Informing local communities of various partnership structures and
operations
. Ensuring that local concerns and suggestions are being fed-back at a
decision-making level
Each meeting concentrates on a different Respect theme e.g. PCSO's, funding,
signposting, Safer Neighbourhoods etc. and helps local people gain a better
understanding of how the RESPECT Agenda works across the city. The CSN
RESPECT Working Group can be used to address weaknesses in the system and
ultimately help improve crime and disorder structures. The meetings are
accessible to all VCS groups throughout the city and as such, are an
excellent platform for gathering reliable anecdotal public opinion.

numbers are limited to 30

The Next Multi Agency Forum (MAF) Meeting is taking place at The Friends

The Multi Agency Forum (MAF) is a networking, planning and
information-sharing event organised every three months by the MARIM team.
At each MAF meeting there are workshops, breakout groups or networking

housing, community support or immigration.
