1.0 Network News

1.1 Communications Working Group

Members of the CN4M Communications Working Group are in the process of
updating the CN4M leaflet (yellow leaflet with network contact details). The
aim of updating the leaflet is to ensure that what CN4M is and does is easy
for people to understand.

2.0 Training

2.1 Lottery Grants for Charities
A detailed study of the policies and practices of the Big Lottery Fund's
main 'open application' grant programmes. With over £200 million a year
available from programmes like Reaching Communities, Basis, Advice Plus and
Community Buildings, can you afford to miss out?
This workshop from the Directory of Social Change is being held at the YHA
Manchester on 13th September 2007.

2.2 Free Training for Refugees
Broughton D@tabase provide free training for refugees in computer building
and maintenance and the Internet and beginners ICT.

2.3 Mental Health Awareness for Information and Advice Guidance Providers
A one-day workshop on 25th September 2007 at The Foresight Centre, Liverpool
L69 3GL
Information, Advice and Guidance is a crucial part of getting people back to
work, into learning, voluntary work or other community activities. Good IAG
that provides appropriate support empowers people to take control of their
lives and make the most of opportunities and their potential. IAG can be

3.1 Engaging Black and Minority Ethnic adult learners in museum and gallery
education
Taking place on Thursday 20 September 2007 at the Merseyside Maritime
Museum, Albert Dock.
This partnership conference between NIACE and National Museums Liverpool
will take place as part of the national commemoration of the abolition of
the slave trade (200 years).
The conference aims to explore the unique potential that museums and
galleries have, and how this could be harnessed to attract more black and
minority ethnic adult learners.
Participants will have the opportunity to network, share best practice and
participate in workshops and have a guided tour around the new International
Slavery Museum.

Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NDLC) Fund 2007-2008

Are you a voluntary and community organisation who feels they can make a

4.2 'Making Connections' - A free guide for Voluntary and Community Sector
organisations working with families.
'Making Connections; A guide for Voluntary and Community Sector
organisations working with families' has been produced by the Campaign for
Learning to support and celebrate the work of VCO's and their partners who
are working with families and offering learning opportunities. The guide
includes case studies from organisations across England delivering quality
family learning programmes, an A - Z of where to get support, top family
learning tips and lots more. Crucially the 'Making Connections' guide offers
practitioners a useful overview, complete with where to go for additional
information/updates, on the current policies shaping change across Family
Learning.

4.3 Your chance to make a film for the BBC.

A nationwide search to capture the UK's most inspiring places on video.
Gloria Hunniford's Sunday morning topical ethical / belief magazine "Heaven
and Earth" on BBC ONE - is joining up with the video web-site YouTube in a
nationwide search for Britain's most inspirational places.
Over six weeks across the Summer, Gloria will be leading an appeal for
programme viewers and 'YouTubers' to pick up a video camera and make their
own short films - showing the places they think are the most inspirational
locations in the UK.
Producer Oliver File says "We're expecting a range of places to be
featured - from classic Cathedrals to stunning rural idylls or sites of
ancient stone circles. And I'm sure someone will be choosing their local
footy club or cricket ground as their most inspirational place!"
At the end of July, the best four films will be chosen by a panel of
judges - and shown on "Heaven & Earth" during August.

4.4 IMPACT Awards
The IMPACT Awards are designed to recognise and reward charities that are
doing excellent work to improve people's health.
The Awards are open to registered charities that are at least three years
old, working in a health related field in the UK, with a total annual income
under £1 million.
Nine winners receive £25,000 and an overall winner receives £35,000. Up to
ten organisations that are highly commended or runners up receive £5,000 or
£3,000.

4.5 TalkTalk Innovation in the Community Awards
Would you like £2000 to spend on PC's, hardware, software or technical
expertise to start up or develop an Internet project?
The new Innovation in the Community Awards, launched today, are offering 30
grants of £2000 to winning charities and communities groups throughout the
UK to fund Internet related projects. Free TalkTalk broadband is also
included in the award.
*Deadline for applications is 28th September 2007 and winners will be
notified by 10 October. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in
November.
The Innovation in the Community Awards is an initiative from TalkTalk, the
communications company from The Carphone Warehouse, in partnership with UK
digital inclusion charity Citizens Online.

4.6 BURA awards for community inspired regeneration 2007 - Open for entries
Do you know an outstanding community inspired regeneration project that

local people, addressing local issues for the benefit of the wider community

4.7 Futures - A TimeBank volunteering project
Futures, a TimeBank run volunteering project, has just launched in the
Greater Manchester area. The project promotes the benefits of volunteering
to individuals aged 25 + from BME communities living in the Greater
Manchester area.
Futures has a dedicated website where people can find out more about
volunteering and register their interest in becoming a volunteer along with
myself, I will actively place individuals into volunteering opportunities
suited to their interests, needs and goals. The Project Coordinator is on
hand to provide ongoing support to all volunteers throughout their time on
the project.

Hours: 21 hours per week Location: Manchester City Centre

You will provide a full range of administrative and support services to the
CN4M central office team. You will work with the team to enable the
efficient delivery of CN4M's programme of work and enable the smooth running
of the CN4M central office and operational systems.

Your duties will include responding to enquiries to the CN4M Core Team,
planning and organising meetings and events, taking minutes and maintaining
office equipment. The successful candidate will have excellent
organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. Experience of
working in the Voluntary Sector is desirable.

5.2 CN4M Finance and Monitoring Manager

Salary: £27,492-£29,859 pa (pay award pending)
Fixed Term to 31st March 2008
Hours: 35 hours per week Location: Manchester City Centre

You will be responsible for the management of all aspects of CN4M's
financial affairs, leading a team of staff responsible for the production of
management accounts, the delivery of the CN4M Grants programme and the
funding of CN4M's sub networks.

Your duties will include managing the CN4M Budget, collecting and processing
accurate financial information, preparing and submitting claims for payments
to funding bodies, preparing CN4M's annual accounts for auditing, managing
the payroll system and providing management and leadership of the Finance
and Monitoring Team. The successful candidate will have excellent
managerial, interpersonal and communication skills. Experience of working in
the Voluntary Sector is desirable.
