1.0 Network News
1.1 CN4M Strategy Group Meeting
The next Strategy Group meeting will be held on Tuesday 18th March 2008.
Due to room shortages at Green Fish Resource Centre the meeting will be held
at Cross Street Chapel (Manchester M2 1NL) at the usual time (5.30- 8.00
pm).

1.2 Community Safety Network (CSN) Re-launch event
The Community Safety Network is changing. Over the past 6-years, the CSN has
worked hard to get your views heard at a statutory level. However, this
process has not always been as effective as they would have liked.
The CSN would like to invite you to their last ever conference where they
will be unveiling their new look delivery plan and showing you how they are
ready to campaign for big changes. The day will focus on 'Promoting The
Vision', a first-hand briefing on 'The New CDRP Strategy' and an explanation
as to how 'Community Call For Action' can work for you. Plus.... by way of a
thank you to everyone for supporting CSN over the last 6-years, there will
be a Champagne and Chocolates finale- a great opportunity to network and
share the way forward.

2.0 Training
2.1 CSV Media Clubhouse Free Internet Workshop
UK Online and CSV Media Clubhouse provide people with access to computers
and the Internet, as well as advice on using them. Through interesting
demonstrations and practical work, you can use computers and internet to do
your grocery shopping, keep in touch with family and friends, book a holiday
and look up for all sorts of information- from football results to weather
forecasts, celebrity gossip to family health. It doesn't matter who you are,
if you've never been near a computer or the internet before, or even you're
unsure about the whole thing- they will be there to help. The Workshop will
be tailor-made for users according to their background and needs.

2.2 'The Grief Centre'- MABF forthcoming training courses
Introduction to Bereavement Counselling Skills (LEVEL 1 CENTRA Validated)
Course Aims and Objectives: To provide students with an introduction into
bereavement counselling skills and the knowledge to underpin these by
providing course participants the opportunity to; Enhance awareness of
bereavement & loss issues; Understand the physical, emotional and
psychological responses to grief; Understand the theories relating to
attachment loss and grief; Develop effective communication skills essential
for bereavement counselling; Practice skills of active listening, empathic
responses, use of silences and questioning. This Level 1 course has open
access. The training is completed over 3 full days of training with an 80%
attendance record essential for CENTRA Validation.

Helping Young People Cope With Loss & Change (LEVEL 1 CENTRA
Validated)Course aims and objectives: To provide students with an
introduction into child bereavement counselling skills. and the knowledge to

awareness of child bereavement & loss issues in relation to themselves and

2.3 Free Partnership Working/Conflict Management Training for
East Manchester VCS groups
East Manchester Community Network are providing free training for local
voluntary and community groups of East Manchester (Gorton North/South,
Newton Heath, Miles Platting, Bradford, Clayton, Ancoats, Openshaw, Beswick)
on the theme of partnership working and conflict management. The training
will cover the importance of partnership working, making partnerships work,
managing and dealing with different types of conflict. Finally this training
will enable local community and voluntary groups to understand each other
better and provide opportunities to network, share information (best
practice) and to build and sustain strong links for future joint working.

2.4 Change Makers- Training Leaders for Action
The training is an introduction to a way of campaigning which helps
strengthen your organisation and gains recognition and dignity for you and
your faith community.
This training is for those: wanting to play a more active role in their
community group, school, congregation, or union; keen to develop their
leadership skills and those of others; interested in understanding how to
make an organisation more effective and inclusive; inquisitive about who
makes the decisions which impact on our lives, our families, our
organisations and how we can influence those decisions; eager to learn
better 'people' skills and how to work as a team; willing to work for the
things they believe in.
You will learn: new leadership techniques; how to connect your faith and
values to practical action; the role that power and self-interest have in
holding a group together and in making the world work.

3.0 Events
3.1 Manchester Conference 2008: 2015 Manchester's Journey-
Saturday 15th March
The fourth Manchester Partnership conference will be held on March 15, 2008.
The event is open to everyone who lives, works, enjoys, or has an interest
in Manchester.
The day will be packed full of information and entertainment, but there will
be a core of activity between 1.00pm and 2.00pm. In the auditorium,
Manchester Partnership will bring people up to date with work achieved so
far in relation to their objectives as stated in the Community Strategy.
There will be a performance from young people who have developed the Moss
Side Manifesto, a short film from young people on their hopes and dreams as
they grow up in Manchester, and Olympic sprint gold medallist Darren
Campbell from Manchester will speak about having goals and realising dreams.
This will be followed by a quiz session during which the audience of 800
will answer questions about their views and feelings about life in
Manchester. Interactive multi-answer responders will be on every seat and
the aim is to develop information that can be related to Local Area
Agreement (LAA) targets.

3.2 North West Citizenship Network: Government Policy Briefing
and Good Practice Sharing Event
Northwest Together We Can and Take Part are pleased to be hosting this free
one day event which includes: Guest Speaker: Senior Policy Advisor: Siddika
Ahmed from Government Office North West: "New Policy and Initiative Update
for our sector"; Practice related workshops; Opportunity to share Good
Practice via stalls and display boards; Time to network, make new contacts
and share information; Free Lunch.

Working with and as part of a Refugee, Asylum Seeker and Migrant Workers

3.3 Hate Crime Event: Victim Support & Witness Service/
Manchester City Council/ GMP
Victim Support and Witness Service would like to invite Partner agencies &
people from the community to this unique awareness event.
Programme: Update from GMP and Manchester City Council on hate crime
reporting and detection rates. Victim support & Witness Service present
information on services available and volunteer support. Odd Theatre will
deliver a visual representation of hate crime and the services available.
Stalls with information to be confirmed
Who should attend?: Refugee & Asylum Seeker groups, minority community
groups, voluntary sector agencies supporting communities, Community Police,
community development officers, anyone who would like to find out more about
preventing hate crime.

3.4 International Women's Day Event- Manchester Women's Design
Group presents: The Changing Shape of Gender and Architectural Space
A lecture and workshop with Dr Jos Boys and Katie Lloyd Thomas from 'taking
place' (www.takingplace.org.uk).
This event will look at how the ways we think about gender and the built
environment have evolved over the last 40 years. The speakers will compare
and contrast some of the ideas and work of Matrix feminist architects'
practice (1979-1995) of which Jos Boys was a co-founder, with the current
work of 'taking place', of which both women are members. They will explore
how changes in women's lives over this period link to changing feminist and
architectural approaches. The workshop will focus on how, as practitioners,
residents and activists, we can keep up the momentum for creative and
constructive developments in spatial design, to benefit the different women
who inhabit Britain's cities in the 21st century. Come and hear the talk and
get involved in a fun and creative workshop. Tea, coffee and tasty food
provided!

3.5 A Wider Embrace: ICT & The Arts - Free Regional Seminars
Workshop One: Is your art or craft group missing out? More and more art and
craft groups are using the web and computers to help their group and promote
themselves - is your group missing out? This FREE introductory workshop
will guide you through the opportunities available to your group.
Workshop Two: Developing IT within your art and craft group. Masterclass
exploring topics e.g. Web 2.0 and specialist software packages guiding you
through the opportunities available to develop your IT capabilities.
The events are primarily aimed at voluntary arts groups but are relevant to
anyone involved in voluntary arts provision (national umbrella bodies,
voluntary arts organisations, local authority arts officers, Arts Council
staff, policy makers, consultants etc).

3.6 National Participatory Budgeting Celebration Event- "Making
Spending Public"
The Participatory Budgeting Unit invites you to the National Participatory
Budgeting Celebration event; "Making Spending Public". It will be hosted by
Newcastle City Council, one of the most progressive local authorities in
engaging with citizens in this way. This event is supported by the
Department for Communities and Local Government, and communities minister
Baroness Andrews, will be making a key address.
Participatory budgeting gives people a direct say in how part of a public
budget is spent on services and facilities in their local area. It is a
crucial part of the government's drive to devolve more decisions to local
communities and help people get engaged. The event will showcase some of the
excellent practice around the country; set out the policy and talk about the
strategic approach towards rolling it out; discuss ways pb could be
mainstreamed and used in specific circumstances; and provide learning
opportunities so that your local authority can see how you could offer it.

The North West Plan - time for your say: The North West Regional Assembly
has launched the first stage of a Partial Review of the North West Plan.
Public consultation has begun on three key areas - housing provision,
renewable energy and waste management. This Partial Review provides an
opportunity for the plan to be considered at a local level and involves
three stages of consultation, the first of which started on 13th February
2008 on the Draft Project Plan and Statement of Public Participation. It
runs until 26th March 2008 and gives everyone a chance to get their voice

New Year Celebration Consultation: Fancy a party? Following public and media
interest, Manchester City Council is consulting with public services,
business and residents to get their views on the possibility of holding an
official New Year celebration in the city centre. The Council is looking at
a number of important issues around the idea, and talking to public service
providers and businesses, and also wants to make sure that the views of
residents are taken into account.

4.3 Crime and Disorder Partnership Survey- take part and have
the chance of winning a prize!
With your help, the Crime and Disorder Partnership have achieved significant
reductions in the levels of crime in Manchester in the last four years. They
want to build on that success by continuing to tackle the types of crime and
disorder that matter to you.
To help decide their priorities for the next three years, they need you to
tell them about your views and experiences of crime and anti-social
behaviour. By completing one of their consultation questionnaires you will
be helping to shape the future work of the Crime and Disorder Partnership.

4.4 Social enterprises in Greater Manchester- How the DEP can

DEP is producing a poster for schools on social enterprise education. This
