3.1 Interested in equalities in Manchester?

Manchester City Council is reviewing its equality schemes and they would like to hear your views about how they might start to build on their approach to ensuring equality and diversity in the city.

At the moment there are three separate equalities schemes which set out how they deliver general and specific duties to prevent discrimination and harassment on each of the legally protected grounds of disability, gender and race. However some organisations, including the new Equalities and Human Rights Commissions and some of Manchester City Council's partners have either put in place or are considering a Single Equalities Scheme. This brings together disability, gender and race in to one scheme and also includes sexuality, age and religious beliefs/faith.

The law might be changed in the future to make Single Equalities Schemes compulsory for us and other public sector organisations.

Manchester City Council is holding a number of focus groups, before they start the review, to consult communities of interest, gender, race and disability.

This is your opportunity to have an input into the Disability Equality Scheme.
