1.1 CN4M Networking Event. We would like to invite all our network members to a Networking Event...

2.0 Training

2.1 Introduction to Advocacy training. This highly interactive training day will focus on defining what advocacy is, different models of advocacy and what constitutes effective practice. This training day is aimed at people who are newly working or volunteering in advocacy; people who are interested in working in the advocacy sector either on a voluntary or paid basis and want to find out more; people who work in advocacy services who want to gain a common understanding of what 'advocacy' means to everyone in the organisation.

3.0 Events

3.1 How the NHS works - Launch event for a new explanatory DVD for refugees, asylum seekers and international new arrivals. Dr. Pip Fisher and REACHE North West, funded by Black Health Agency and Manchester PCT, have produced a DVD clip explaining how the NHS works for new arrivals to the UK. The DVD will be available in a range of languages and will be widely distributed to groups working with refugees and asylum seekers and also available online. A launch event is being held- it will include a showing, speakers (TBC) and a lunch.

3.2 Participatory Budgeting and Young People Seminar - Expression of Interest. Hosted by the Participatory Budgeting Unit's Children and Young People's project in collaboration with Manchester Development Education Project. This event builds on last years seminar held jointly between the PB Unit and Save the Children. Much has changed over the last year, with increasing government support for participatory budgeting at local authority level.

3.3 Listening to Others - A forum for learning about diverse perspectives. A unique opportunity to take part in a new method of group discussion. The theme for this event is 'Journeys' - learning about others' experiences of travel and migration through the method of story-telling. Free event with food from around the world. 4.2 FareShare - Volunteer's wanted. Emerge and FareShare have teamed up to combine FareShare's social aim with that of emerge; to relieve food poverty and to reduce waste. Emerge FareShare is a unique scheme that redistributes surplus food from the waste industry to homeless and vulnerable people in Greater Manchester.

They need volunteers to make this project a success. They are looking for drivers, drivers' mates and sorters; no experience necessary as training will be given in all aspects of the roles.

4.3 Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) proposals consultation. The Department for Transport recently approved a Greater Manchester bid to the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) to improve public transport, securing the release of nearly £3 billion in funding to transform public transport. This funding hinges on the adoption of a Greater Manchester congestion charge. Before the proposals can proceed, AGMA and GMPTA need to find out the extent to which people agree with the plans. The Transport Resource Unit (TRU) at GMCVO will be engaging with the Voluntary and Community Sector in Greater Manchester to ensure that organisations fully understand what is proposed in the TIF bid, and are equipped to respond to the consultation.TRU are holding an information event in Manchester on Tuesday 22nd July to brief Voluntary and Community Sector organisations about TIF. 4.4 Manchester LINk. As a result of suggestions made at the LINk launch event, along with work that has already been done, groups are being set up to start working on some of the issues raised. These include: 'Access to Services', 'Manchester Mental Health Watchdog', 'Training Health and Social Care staff', and 'Complaints'. 4.5 Education and Community at the Palace Theatre and Opera House. Education and Community is working hard to enable people to learn more about theatre through practical activities, events and projects. They work across Greater Manchester, primarily with schools but are looking to expand to working with different sectors of the community.

They are looking for Community Organisations who would be interested in creating a theatre inspired project with them and working together during 2009. They are interested in talking to groups from across Greater Manchester, particularly (but not exclusively) those working with families.

4.6 Talking Health Survey. Manchester PCT has recently launched a public engagement programme called 'Talking Health'. The idea is to start an ongoing conversation with patients, the public and staff around developing local priorities for the provision of health services. 4.7 Community Empowerment White Paper. Hazel Blears has just announced her Department's 'Communities In Control' White Paper... Its key themes are power, influence and control: who has power, on whose behalf is it exercised, how is it held to account, and how can it be diffused throughout the communities we live in? It is about democracy, and how democratic practices and ideals can be applied to our complex, modern society.

4.8 North West Celebrates ESF Successes. The Wai Yin Chinese Women's Society Construction Solutions project won the Embracing Diversity Award and then scooped the Provider Excellence Award for supporting 120 women through practical skills training and taster sessions in the construction industry. 4.9 Manchester City Council CASH grants 2008/9. Residents and tenants groups, community groups, voluntary sector organisations and interest groups are eligible, and you do not have to be formally constituted.
The application process is much simpler this year with just a one side of A4 application form. 4.10 Pitch Your Project. Pitch Your Project is looking for organisations that benefit the health, wellbeing and fitness of their community with the support of volunteers. Whether it's running a sports club, befriending scheme, or patient support group, if the project has a great idea for making a difference with volunteers, they could win £2000 cash when they present their project and ideas to a panel of experts. Five short listed projects will be given £250 to develop a plan for using volunteers, as well as receiving face to face advice from a panel of experts in communications, design, health and volunteering.

Pitch Your Project is run by TimeBank in partnership with the NHS Foundation Trust Network and is looking for innovative and effective ways in which volunteers can support the delivery of health and wellbeing services.

5.1 Merci - Sustaining Change Project - 3 posts. MERCi is one of Manchester's leading sustainable development charities. It runs a range of projects, all aimed at helping people and organisations live and work more sustainably. They are seeking highly motivated and proactive people to deliver their latest project - 'Sustaining Change' - which aims to create a cohesive network of professional Third Sector organisations who are committed to operating sustainably and willing to share this best practice throughout the Third Sector. The project is funded until 2012 by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.



Sustaining Change - Project Coordinator

£24,271 Five days week 37.5 hrs with up to 5% matched pension contribution.

To coordinate and manage the Sustaining Change Project. Working closely with partner organisations to set up a network of Third Sector organisations who can deliver support and training around sustainability. Develop toolkits and deliver events, audits and training and promote Third Sector involvement in the project and sustainable development.



Sustaining Change - Network Development Officer

£21,883 Five days week 37.5 hrs (possible job share) with up to 5% matched pension contribution.

To develop and maintain the Sustaining Change Network. Work with Third Sector groups throughout Greater Manchester to promote their engagement in this project and sustainable development . Help develop toolkits and deliver events, audits and training.



Sustaining Change - Admin Worker

£15,810 (£6324 pro rata for 2 days week) with up to 5% matched pension contribution. (With possible increase in hours dependent on additional funding)

To provide administrative support for the Sustaining Change Project and MERCi . Helping with events and volunteers.
