4.2 Compact Consultation. The Commission for the Compact has begun a consultation on whether the agreement should be statutory. The Compact is currently a voluntary agreement that sets out how public bodies and third sector organisations should treat each other. It is part of an ongoing review of the Compact that could see the five codes of practice re-written and possibly merged into one document.
To find out more go to: www.thecompact.org.uk

4.3 Government Guide to Procurement. A new guide 'Buy and Make a Difference ' has been published by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). It recommends that discussions with the voluntary and community sector are held at an early stage of the procurement process in order to meet social objectives effectively. This can establish "a good understanding of the capacity and potential of the market", the guide says.

See: www.ogc.gov.uk/documents/Social_Issues_in_Public_Procurement.pdf

4.4 Effective consultation with the third sector survey. Involve, in partnership with Guidestar, are currently undertaking a project to explore the ways in which the third sector can be consulted effectively in public service decision making. This project is funded by the Office of the Third Sector and NCVCCO (The National Council of Voluntary Child Care Organisations) and the final output will be a useful toolkit for policy makers and consultation organisers.

They would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete this short survey
