2.0 Training

2.1 Digital Mentoring Project - FREE ICT Workshops

DigitALL is a new project based in Greater Manchester that matches young
people (aged 18-25) with people aged 45 and over who want help to get
started using the Internet and digital technology. They are running a
series of four linked training workshops on popular topics that will be fun
and informal. At the workshops you will work in pairs, helping someone else
with the activities as you learn together.

If you are between 18-25 years old come along to our workshops and gain new
skills, and valuable experience.
Complete 4 x2 hours workshops and you will receive a Volunteering
Certificate

3.1 Social Enterprise and Regeneration Seminar

University of Liverpool Management School - Monday 14th January 2008

In this seminar, papers will be presented for discussion in order to
encourage debates across a broad spectrum of issues that consider the social
role of enterprises and entrepreneurship. The seminar is being run in
association with the British Academy of Management, University of Liverpool
Management School Centre for Enterprise, ISBE and Emerald.

3.3 Greater Manchester Sub-Regional Seminar on Transport

The seminar will take place on Wednesday, 9th January 2008 from 10am at
Council Chamber, Level 3,

A buffet lunch will be available at the conclusion of the meeting at
approximately 1pm.

The key purpose of the seminar is to discuss the GMPTA's Budget for
2008/2009. The event will also provide an update on the Local Transport
Bill, our Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) bid, extensions to Ring and Ride,
and improved mechanisms for public engagement and consultation.

4.1 Community Development Foundation appointed to deliver £130 million
'grassroots grants' scheme
The Cabinet Office today unveiled the name of a new, multi-million pound
funding programme to boost local community organisations with much-needed
access to small grants and long-term financing. It also announced the
appointment of the Community Development Foundation as its lead national
partner in delivering the scheme.

4.2 Victim Support & Witness Service

History and daily experience shows that anyone could be a victim of crime.
Every day volunteers reduce the harm caused by crime. Long after the police
and others have moved on volunteers are there to support victims and
witnesses of crime until they can cope on their own again. They can only do
this with your help.

Volunteers receive excellent free in-house training and ongoing
opportunities for participation in advanced courses to enable them to help
victims and witnesses of all crime. Community volunteers and witness service
volunteers, who help witnesses through the court processes and procedures,
come from all sections of the community - people just like you!

4.3 Working Neighbourhood Fund
The fund is a new dedicated fund for local councils and communities to
develop more concentrated, concerted, community-led approaches to getting
people in the most deprived areas of England back to work.

4.4 Urban Forum Places and Built Environment Research
Urban Forum is carrying out research to find out what access people have to
shops and services, how they feel about these, and whether it is possible to
have a voice and influence the local environment. As part of our research,
they will be bringing together a small group of Urban Forum members over the
course of three Policy Forum meetings to discuss these issues and come up
with recommendations for policy-makers.
It is an opportunity for you to get involved in shaping Urban Forum's policy
on the built environment. They expect a commitment from you to attend the 3
meetings. First meeting will take place in London over two days (22nd and
23rd of January) and includes a place at Urban Forum's annual lecture given
by Oliver James, followed by dinner. You will need to do a small piece of

4.5 Youth Engagement Research Brief

This brief is to carry out a North West region review of current work
involving young people being undertaken by Statutory Bodies, Local Agencies
and Voluntary and Community organisations.

North West Together We Can, is seeking tenders from interested individuals
or organisations to carry out this work.

NWTWC is a representative group from statutory, community and voluntary
sector agencies across the North West, working to increase public and
community participation in decision making and service delivery.

The closing date for submission of tenders is 12 noon on Friday January 18th

5.1 Community Pride Support Worker
£15,153 to £16,217 pro rata, 13 hours per week

Community Pride, in partnership with faith and voluntary groups in
Manchester and Salford, enables local people to have a greater voice in
regeneration and social exclusion programmes both at neighbourhood and city
level.

Responsible for supporting a staff member who is a registered blind person,
your work will include assisting with reading documents and general
administration, and accompanying the worker to meetings and events in
Manchester and Salford.
The post comes with 25 days annual leave pro rata and a generous employers'
pension contribution.
