1.0 Network News

1.1 CN4M Strategy Group Meeting

The next Strategy Group meeting will be taking place on Tuesday 18th
September at the Greenfish Resource Centre from 6pm - 8pm (refreshments
available from 5:30pm).

2.1 Training Events in Manchester Autumn/Winter 2007

These courses are designed for professionals wishing to develop effective
skills when working with clients & service users, particularly to establish
rapport and help people to change unwanted habits and behaviour.

All courses take place at Manchester Carers Centre

Advanced Rapport Skills - 8th October 2007
The training will impart successful techniques to build rapport easily and
genuinely.
Changing Habits and Behaviour - 22nd October 2007
The training will impact successful techniques to overcome negative
behaviour or habits
Working Effectively with Clients and Service Users - 29th October 2007
The training will explore understanding how your clients see the world.

2.2 Professional Development for Assessors Course
There are still places left on the Professional Development for Assessors
Course (Level 3, accredited by ASET) starting on Monday 3rd September.
The full course dates are: 3rd September, 10th September, 17th September,
25th September and 2nd October, you would need to be able to attend all five
days to get full benefit. The cost is £150 as the programme is subsidised by
LSC ESF.

3.2 Stroke Information Seminar

Manchester Health Watchdog is holding the above information seminar and
would like to invite you to attend if you are interested in finding out more
about:
Stroke services in Manchester
How to recognise the symptoms of someone having a stroke
How you can shape Stroke services locally in Manchester
How you can share with the Forum your experiences, comments and views

There will be a presentation from Melissa Brechin, Stroke Specialist Nurse
Practitioner from Central Manchester Stroke Services with a question and
answer session.

The seminar is on Thursday 13th September from 10.00am - 12.00pm at Gaddum
House, 6 Great Jackson Street, Manchester, M15 4AX.

3.3 One World, One Cheetham, One Festival

This event is taking place on Friday 7th Sept - Sunday 9th Sept.

Cheetham in North Manchester has a centuries old tradition of welcoming
communities into its midst. As part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days
event, the Cheetham festival, now in its fourth year, has thrown open its
doors to offer a wonderful weekend of cultural celebration.

Get Bent 2007 is a 10 day festival celebrating queer culture, community and
diversity in Central Manchester!

4.0 Information

4.1 Show support for Irwell City Park

Salford, Manchester and Trafford have submitted a bid to the BIG Lottery
Fund to create Irwell City Park - a new and exciting urban park that will
transform 8km of riverside into an accessible, attractive and vibrant
waterfront for everyone to enjoy.

Irwell City Park will stretch from Salford Quays, through Manchester city
centre, to The Meadows in Salford. The new park will provide a safe,
continuous green route for pedestrians and cyclists. There will be exciting
new public spaces, better access to the riverside, improved lighting and
signage, five stunning new bridges and lots of new events and activities.

The bid is one of 23 UK projects competing for funding from the BIG Lottery
Fund's Living Landmarks programme. In November 2007 the BIG Lottery will
announce which projects will receive £25m.

Salary: £15k - £16k, 35 hours/week
Location: Manchester city centre

Local charity NEARIS runs adult education centres for people who have faced
a range of problems in their lives. We are seeking an experienced and
enthusiastic administration worker to help run our Manchester centre. This
is a varied and interesting role, working as part of a small friendly team.
As first point of contact at the centre you will need to interact in a
confident and friendly way with students and visitors.
