2.1 Employer Supported Volunteering Workshop. Volunteer Centre
Warrington are delivering a one day Employer Supported Volunteering
workshop. This is a brand new training module from the Excellence in
Volunteer Management programme from Volunteering England. The workshop will
enable learners to engage employers and employer supported volunteers
effectively in the work of their organisation. Cost: £99.00 per person

2.2 Starting Up Your Own Business- Free Advisory Service with
Business Support Solutions. Business Support Solutions offers advice and
information to help you become your own boss. With more than 15 years
experience in supporting local businesses, they are able to offer a
customised Business Start Up support service. If you would like to take
part, your first step would be to attend an Awareness Session, with a group
of like minded people. An accredited business advisor will give a
presentation covering all aspects of business planning. At the end of the
session you should have all the information you need to write a workable
business plan and make sure that your plan complies with the legal
requirements of setting up a business. Additional hour long one to one
sessions are then available with a fully qualified business advisor, to look
at your specific needs.

2.3 Social Enterprise Start Up Programme- Free Training. A unique
opportunity to develop your project idea into a viable social enterprise.
Business Support Solutions Start up and Legal Structure Programmes are aimed
at individuals or groups who wish to set up a social enterprise and require
support with developing their vision and planning their project. The
programmes comprise a number of workshops and one to one business support
sessions, designed to give you the practical skills needed to develop and
start a social enterprise. If you wish to join other social entrepreneurs on

2.4 Turbulence & Transitions: Understanding & Working in Changing
Organisations. Organised by the Tavistock & Portman NHS Trust, this one-day
workshop is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to reflect
on their experience of organisational life. The morning programme will draw
on systemic and psychoanalytic perspectives, which inform our understanding
of work in organisations. The afternoon is devoted to the practical
application of these theoretical ideas, in small consultation work groups.

3.1 'Women's Day Out'- Free Event. Includes Beauty Treatments and
Mini Health Checks. Women are invited to attend a free event where top
medical consultants from the region will answer questions and concerns about
women's health issues. Hosted by BMI Healthcare, in conjunction with the
charity, WellBeing of Women, the event will provide invaluable insights for
anyone interested in women's health issues with the opportunity to listen
and speak to expert consultants on topics including women's cancers, sexual
health, breast awareness, osteoporosis and the menopause. Discounted beauty

3.2 The North West's Regional Social Enterprise Conference- Free.
This event is aimed anyone who works in or is involved with Social
Enterprise organisations within the North West and will: Provide an overview
of Launch - the new partnership of social enterprises that aims to provide a
voice for Social Enterprises across the Region; Increase your understanding
of the Regional and Sub-regional Social Enterprise support structures;
Provide an opportunity for you to influence the shape of support for Social
Enterpises across the region including how the Social Enterprise Framework
funding is spent; Provide an opportunity to question key policy makers,
funders and practitioners; Allow you to hear from nationally reputed key
speakers with a wealth of knowledge and experience about their perception of

3.3 Conference: Learning In Later Life: 'In Full Bloom ... Or
Withering On The Vine?'. Given the Government's recent consultation paper on
Informal Learning, this conference will identify the significant issues for
older learners. The conference will provide opportunities to discuss the
issues and compile an agreed statement on the benefits of learning for older
people that will be used to lobby and campaign for more, different and
better learning opportunities for older learners. This conference is being
organised jointly by NIACE, Our Voice - Regional Learner Panel Yorkshire and

3.4 The Empowerment Action Plan: Making Empowerment A Reality In
Every Community. Background Information: On the 19th October 2007, the
Department for Communities and Local Government produced an action plan to
increase community empowerment. 'An Action Plan for Community Empowerment:
Building on Success' highlights what can be done to build on the examples
from around the country of local authority best practice in community
empowerment. Many councils are already empowering their communities and
residents as the case studies in the Plan show. With this in mind, "The
Empowerment Action Plan: Making Empowerment a Reality in Every Community"
takes place will examine how authorities will be given increasingly greater

3.5 Learning Disability Today Event. The biggest event in the UK on
learning disabilities. Comprehensive seminar programme covering:
Person-centred support; Personalisation; Residential and community services;

3.6 ACEVO North Conference 2008. Join the largest gathering of third
sector leaders in the North of England! Acevo's second northern conference

3.7 Innovation and Creativity Global Citizenship Project Launch.
Development Education Project - Funded by Oxfam UK. The aim of the project
is to develop the knowledge and skills base in innovation, creativity and
risk for global citizenship. You are invited to discuss these ideas on the
24th April. The meeting will be participative giving plenty of opportunity
to share and develop your own ideas on the process. The organisers would
like short presentations, or activities, which convey participant's own
views on the creative and innovative process.

3.10 Public Seminar- Challenges and Opportunities for Service
Delivery in a culturally diverse society: lessons from the Muslim community.
Key aims of the seminar: To bring together public and private service
providers and those who use their services; To examine experiences gained
from their individual perspective to find out how they have dealt with the
challenges of meeting the needs of a more culturally, ethnically and
religiously diverse British society; To explore further opportunities and
challenges for service providers arising from further immigration into
Britain from the EU and elsewhere.

4.0 New research available on CN4M website. Three new pieces of
research from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation are now available in the
'Knowledgebank' section of the CN4M website: 'Routes and Barriers to Citizen
Governance'- An exploration of the influences and barriers that impact on
citizen participation in local governance. 'Immigration, Faith, Cohesion'-
An exploration of the factors that affect community cohesion in urban areas
in England with significant Muslim populations. 'Community Empowerment in
practice: lessons from Communities First'- An examination of a
community-based programme in Wales that aims to increase opportunities for
community empowerment and potential influence over service providers.
A new piece of research from Lancaster University is also available: 'From
Placards to Partnership: the changing nature of community activism in
Manchester, UK and Aotearoe, New Zealand'

4.5 Women's Group- The Roby Counselling Service. The Women's Group
is a therapeutic group where members can share personal difficulties, and
give and receive support and feedback. This can help members to begin to see
things from a new perspective, increase awareness of themselves and others.
Members also begin to recognize that they are not 'the only one' and feel
supported in their efforts towards self-acceptance and personal change. A
group has between 6 and 8 members. The group will run every Friday from 12

4.6 Third Sector needs its own university, says ACEVO. A university
of the third sector should be created to harness the talents of graduates
considering the sector as a serious career option, according to ACEVO. To

4.7 Valuing Older People Awards. The Valuing Older People Board are
running an awards' nomination for inspirational older people... Voices of
Experience in Manchester. Do you know an inspirational older person? The
Valuing Older People Positive Images of Ageing team would like to hear about
what makes them inspirational. For an opportunity for them to appear on the
VOP Calendar 2009 and for you both to attend a Full of Life Festival award

4.8 Manchester climate change pledge. All across Greater Manchester
almost 20,000 people are taking small steps to tackle Climate Change
supported through the 'Manchester is my Planet' programme. Greater
Manchester has an overall target of getting 50,000 people Switched-on to
Climate Change by World Environment Day on June 5th. For Manchester this
means getting just 6,000 more people to take the Climate Change pledge.
Richard Leese (Chair of the Manchester Local Strategic Partnership) said:
"I'd therefore like to encourage all colleagues within our partner
organisations, together with their family and friends, to help us reach this
goal and demonstrate that they (and Manchester) are Switched-on to Climate
Change. It only takes a couple of minutes to sign up and and pledges will
automatically register on the Manchester total as part of an online Greater

4.9 Informal Learning Consultation. Do you value informal adult
learning? Does your organisation deliver informal adult learning
opportunities, or have you delivered them in the past before the funding
dried up? Do you want to save informal adult learning and influence its
future development? The Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills
(DIUS) is undertaking a major consultation on the future of informal
learning. The consultation document is called 'Informal Adult Learning -
Shaping the Way Ahead': closing date15 May 2008. The Third Sector National
Learning Alliance (TSNLA) is compiling a collective response from Third
Sector providers to ensure they have a strong 'voice' in the wider
consultation (it will be managed by the Workers' Educational Association).

4. 10 Consultation- Participatory Budgeting: a draft national
strategy. Giving more people a say in local spending Consultation.
Department for Communities and Local Government. The purpose of this
consultation is to seek views on the draft Participatory Budgeting Strategy.
Specifically, the document seeks views on the strategy as a plan to achieve
the Government's ambition for participatory budgeting to be used in all

5.1 CN4M Network Development Officer (Maternity cover). Job Title:
Network Development Officer, Salary: NJC Scale Pt. 27. Currently £22,122,
Organisation: Community Network 4 Manchester.
CN4M is looking for an experienced Network Development Officer to cover
maternity leave from June 2008 to November 2008 (subject to funding).
We would expect the applicant to be able to: Work with our sub-networks on
all aspects of their development; Assist the finance and monitoring team in
producing reports and gathering and collating evidence; And support the
'core' function of CN4M by assisting or leading on delivering relevant
actions to the post in our Delivery Plan.
The post will be full time (35 hours per week).
We would prefer the applicant to have knowledge of and be active within the
Community Network for Manchester.

5.4 Half Time Project Support Worker. Job Title: Half Time Project
Support Worker, Salary: NJC scale Point 11 £14,197 per annum (£7,098 pro

5.6 Money Advice Worker. Job Title: Money Advice Worker, Salary:
£12,623 pa, Hours: 25 hours per week, Contract: two years fixed term,
Organisation: Tameside African Refugee Association (TARA), Funded initially
for two years by the United Utilities Trust Fund. TARA is a small dynamic
charity working with refugees and asylum seekers in Tameside. They are
looking for an experienced general adviser (a minimum of two years paid or
voluntary full time experience or part time equivalent) who has a good
knowledge of debt advice especially in dealing with priority and utility
debt casework. The post will involve the delivery of an advice drop-in
service to their client group, the training and support of volunteers
working in their advice centre.
